Alex specialises in company law, insolvency and general commercial litigation.

Education

Alex read Law at St John’s College, Cambridge, where he obtained first class honours in all three years, finishing in the top ten in the University on each occasion and coming top of his year in Company, Constitutional and Administrative Law. He was the winner of the University’s Intercollegiate Mooting Competition.

He won a Thouron Scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, where he specialised in Company Law and Mergers and Acquisitions, and read for the BCL at St John’s College, Oxford, where he obtained a distinction. He won an Inner Temple Princess Royal Scholarship for the Bar Vocational Course.

Description of Practice

Alex’s practice combines litigious and advisory matters. He is currently instructed as a junior in Commercial Court proceedings relating to a breach of warranty, and has advised in relation to the recapitalisation of a commercial bank and changes to articles of association arising from the Companies Act 2006. Alex has wide experience of County Court advocacy, including the trial of a consumer credit claim and contested bankruptcy petitions.

As a pupil Alex assisted members of Chambers in relation to a variety of litigation, including shareholder disputes, administration petitions, freezing injunctions, Commercial Court litigation, professional negligence and the duties of directors, liquidators and receivers. He has assisted in relation to schemes of arrangement and reductions of capital, and has experience of work involving offshore jurisdictions including Jersey, the Isle of Man, Hong Kong, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

Following pupillage Alex spent a total of six months on secondment at Slaughter and May, where he sat with Nigel Boardman, and in the Mergers and Acquisitions department of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where he obtained experience of a wide variety of corporate transactions and legal issues including schemes of arrangement, reductions of capital, mergers under the Cross-Border Mergers Regulations 2007, financial assistance and the Prospectus, Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
